We Are

We Are by Kari Jobe

Every secret, every shame.
Every fear, every pain.
Live inside the dark, but that’s not who we are.
We are children of the day.

So wake up sleeper, lift your head.
We were meant for more than this.
Fight the shadows, conquer death.
Make the most of the time we have left.

We are the light of the world.
We are the city on a hill.
We are the light of the world.
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine.

We are the light of the world.
We are the city on a hill.
We are the light of the world.
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine.

We are called to spread the news.
To tell the world the simple truth.
Jesus came to save, there’s freedom in his name.
So let His love break through.

We are the light, we are the light, we are the light.
So let your light shine brighter.
We are the light, we are the light, we are the light.
Jesus

You are the light, You are the light, You are the light.
We will lift You higher.
Shine, shine shine.

We are the light of the world.
We are the city on a hill.
We are the light of the world.
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine.

We are the light of the world.
We are the city on a hill.
We are the light of the world.
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine.

Let the light shine.
Let the light shine.

As Christians we are called to spread the Good News of the Gospel. We often do this by sharing part of our story with another person.

We have lost of the art of telling our story to other people. When we started to stop sharing our connection with God and with other people there was a cost to that, we are in decline in The United Methodist Church. In the Pacific Northwest Annual Conference alone between 1968 and 2009 we are down 79% children and youth who are related or in involvement with our church communities. That number should shock you. This is people were talking about, lives, young people who need community.

We get so caught up in the idea that our fears, shame, pain, and secrets need to define who we are. I’m here to tell you they don’t define you. In reality our fears, shame, pain, and secrets are part of our own personal story. When we tell people our story we realize we are not alone in whatever we are dealing with at the time. We have people willing to walk with us on this crazy journey called life.

We are the light of the world. When we share our stories with other people we shine our lights unto them.

How will you shine your light for yourself?

How will you shine your light for other people?
